Do They Know it’s Christmas?

20 Dec

I was organizing our humble abode, a casualty of the second law of thermodynamics, and simultaneously listening to, when “Do They Know it’s Christmas?” came on and I was instantly struck by the message of the song.  It’s very true that oftentimes we easily get lost in our day-to-day activities, or our thoughts, or good times  that those outside of our mesosystem are forgotten.  But then we see or hear something that reminds us that being selfless is good for the world and for the soul…

Christmastime shouldn’t be the only time when we remember our less fortunate fellowmen.  But if there is a time that we truly ought to remember them, this season is as good a time as any.  So, help feed the world.  Do something.

Do They Know It’s Christmas?
Band Aid

It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time

But say a prayer, pray for the other ones
At Christmas time, it’s hard, but when you’re having fun
There’s a world outside your window
And it’s a world of dread and fear

Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
Chimes of doom
Well, tonight, thank God it’s them instead of you

And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows, no rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?

Here’s to you
Raise a glass for everyone
Here’s to them
Underneath that burning sun
Do they know Christmas time at all?

Feed the world, feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again

Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again

Wishing you a beautiful Holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

I always seem to catch the end of the song so it’s good to hear the full song and message.
